(June 2, 2025) — Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday lauded the 19th Congress as one of the most productive and unified legislative bodies in Philippine history, highlighting major accomplishments and urging colleagues to finish strong in the final weeks before adjournment.
Speaking for the first time since the 2025 midterm elections, Romualdez addressed both returning and outgoing members of the House of Representatives, praising their performance during a politically charged term.
“Let me say this with pride. This house of the people delivered,” Romualdez said in a speech delivered on the House floor
“We showed that in the face of challenge, this House stood strong. We chose country over color, service over self,” . “This is the power of democracy.”
The House leader cited the passage of 27 out of 28 priority bills under the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC), along with 61 of 64 measures under the broader common legislative agenda.
“These are real solutions to real problems, not just speeches, not just slogans,” he said, enumerating achievements such as crackdowns on smugglers and hoarders, increased support for rice farmers, and laws addressing job-skill mismatches and seafarers’ welfare.
Romualdez also outlined legislative priorities for the final two weeks of session, including the Open Access in Data Transmission Act, the E-Governance Act, and the country’s first bill on artificial intelligence.
He called on the House to support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s proposed P20-per-kilo rice program, framing it as a “promise to every Filipino family struggling to make ends meet.”
The Speaker also emphasized the importance of defending democratic institutions against disinformation.
“Fake news, online manipulation, disinformation — these are not just annoyances. They are threats to the truth and to trust,” he said. “Let the House of the people be a bastion of fact, reason, and fairness.”
Romualdez urged lawmakers to remain focused until the sine die adjournment.
“Let us use every remaining hour, every session day, every ounce of our energy to complete what we started,” he said. “Let history remember us not just as lawmakers, but as leaders who chose unity over division, service over ambition, and people over politics.”
The 19th Congress is set to adjourn sine die on June 7.
