(November 24, 2024) – Leaders of the House of Representatives on Sunday dismissed the blatant remarks by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio as a mere attempt to divert public attention from her controversial confidential funds.
Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Quezon Rep. David Suarez, and Zamboanga Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe stressed that the lower chamber has adhered to transparency and good governance, refuting Duterte-Carpio’s baseless claims.
Gonzales, a senior deputy speaker, claimed that Duterte-Carpio was “hallucinating,” advising her to consult a doctor.
“Malinis ang report ng Commission on Audit (COA) sa paggamit ng pera ng taong bayan ng House of Representatives under (House) Speaker (Martin) Romualdez, ‘di gaya ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) under VP Duterte,” said Gonzales in a media release.
Suarez, a deputy speaker, furthered that the strong accusations Duterte-Carpio hurled against the House of Representatives were only “drama and deception.”
“Diversionary lang ‘yun sa ‘di maipaliwanag na paggastos ng P612.5 million na confidential funds na tinanggap ng OVP and Department of Education (DepEd) noong siya ay education secretary pa,” added Suarez.
The embattled vice president is being investigated by the committee on good government and public accountability due to her alleged misuse of confidential funds, including spending P125 million in 11 days in December 2022.
During an online rant last Friday, Duterte-Carpio said the lower chamber is using the hearings to taint her reputation, as Romualdez is interested in running for president in 2028.

Romualdez is the cousin of Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr.
Dalipe, the majority leader, refuted the allegation, saying it “has no basis at all.”
“The House wanted to protect public funds and acted on the COA report questioning hundreds of millions of pesos in CIF (confidential and intelligence funds) expenses by madame Sara Duterte as vice president and as DepEd secretary,” noted Dalipe.
