SHORTER WORK WEEK | Senate approves flexi-time bill
May 21, 2019 , 08:37 AM

MAY 21, 2019 — The Senate approved on third and final reading a bill giving employers and employees the option to adopt flexi-time and compressed work arrangements.

Voting 17-0, the Senate approved Bill 1571 or the proposed Alternative Working Arrangement Act.

Under the measure, employees are entitled to alternative working time of up to 48 hour per week and still receive their regular benefits.

Sen. Joel Villanueva, author and sponsor of the measure, clarified that the work arrangements such as flexi-time, compressed work week, and shift flexibility, among other arrangements are voluntary and subject to the agreement between employers and their employees.

The bill has been approved by the House of Representatives and only needs to be signed by President Rodrigo Duterte to become a law.
