(March 25, 2020) – The country’s national police on Wednesday said it has reinforced biosafety protocols in its facilities after two more of its members tested positive for the coronavirus.
The Philippine National Police’s public information office said two policemen, a 32-year-old assigned in Metro Manila and a 52-year-old working in Laguna, are the latest addition to a growing number of security forces contracting COVID-19.
“Both patients are now under home isolation and are being closely monitored by PNP doctors,” the PNP statement said.
More than 700 police personnel are now listed as persons under monitoring while 61 are considered persons under investigation, data from the PNP’s health service showed.
The offices where both of the newly infected policemen reported had been placed on lockdown and ordered disinfected.
The PNP says the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group will conduct contact tracing to determine other possible infections.
On Tuesday, the Manila police confirmed that one of its patrolmen tested positive for the virus, the first known confirmed case in the PNP.
