(January 8, 2021) – Seeking justice should not come at the expense of due process, some netizens said on Twitter, as criticisms towards the mother of flight attendant Christine Dacera continue to grow on social media.
“Thelma Chiong” trended on Twitter on Friday as some pointed out similarities between Sharon Dacera and Thelma Chiong, the mother of two sisters who were allegedly kidnapped, raped, and killed in 1997 in Cebu.
The controversial case gained renewed interest in 2018 after the 2011 documentary about it entitled “Give Up Tomorrow” spread online, with netizens pointing out that Chiong was eerily indifferent about the death of their daughters.
Netizens posted videos of the Dacera family’s press conference on Wednesday, showing how quickly Sharon shifted her emotions within a few seconds, just like Chiong in the said documentary.
And worse, kitang kita yung pag acting ng nanay. Right after fake crying, back to normal na si nanay. I’ll let the video do the talking. pic.twitter.com/fyZbv1poA2

Some also pointed out how she sought President Rodrigo Duterte’s “kamay na bakal” in a bid to find justice for the death of her 23-year-old daughter even when the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear up to this point.
“Tatay Digong” also trended on Twitter on Friday after Sharon uttered the exact words in one of her interviews.
The mother of Christine, Sharon Dacera said during a media interview addressing her Tatay Digong, “Parusahan n’yo na po”. I know she is hurting but that is not an excuse not to go to court. Did she mean EJK? What if the suspects get killed? Is she willing to take responsibility?

sunod yung dun sa interview kay sharon dacera na umiiyak na parang umaarye sa drama. i am confused dahil sa pagdadalamhati niya. i know, hindi dapat nikkwensyon pero hindi makita yung sincerity and base sa pinapakita at sinasabi mo na ‘tatay digong parusahan—

When she said in the news ‘Tatay Digong’, we all knew it already. ?

This also prompted netizens to recall Chiong even more, who wanted to prosecute the seven individuals linked to her daughters’ case, even calling for help from former President Joseph Estrada back then.

It eventually led to the conviction of the accused, Paco Larrañaga, but legal experts said there was a mistrial. Some Twitter users said what happened to Larrañaga should not happen again in Dacera’s case.
The Chiong Murder case, which specifically involved Paco Larrañaga’s false conviction. Same rape and murder case. Same oversensationalization by the media. Same doubtful and manipulative procedures of the PNP. Paco was used as a scapegoat so the PNP can put the case to rest. pic.twitter.com/luEuwEJ4c5

To the public,
As much as we want to get the justice for Christine Dacera, may you not be overwhelmed by emotions and be dissent upon looking the case, or else we will witness and waste another Paco Larranaga in the coming years. pic.twitter.com/Zt53N5jjoK

Netizens hope the truth will come out as authorities carry on with their probe on Dacera’s case, which has also garnered the country’s attention. They also hope authorities would step up their efforts so that no one will suffer the same fate under false trials and convictions.
pota still got the chills after realizing the parallels between the Chiong murder case and Christine Dacera’s case today. It doesn’t just seem like history is repeating. I feel like I’m in the same era as Paco Larrañaga’s false trials and conviction.

I empathize w/Ms. Sharon Dacera’s grief & call for justice over the death of her daughter. But to invoke her Tatay’s “kamay na bakal” to punish suspects even though the case of her daughter is unclear, dangerously tells me the mindset of Tatay’s worshipers: enablers of injustice.
