(June 3, 2020) – The Philippines on Wednesday reported 751 new coronavirus cases, bringing the country’s total to nearly 20,000, the third day after a strict lockdown was eased a bit, a senior health official said.
In a regular briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said about 70 percent, or 530 of the new cases were based on late reports, which were issued more than four days ago.
Most of these old cases came from Central Visayas region with 240 and Metro Manila with 174. The other 221 cases were considered “fresh” after results were released within three days. These cases also came from Central Visayas with 102 cases, followed by the capital region with 68.
The country’s confirmed infections have reached 19,748 cases, four months since the outbreak was first detected in late January.
