(April 22, 2024) – Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday addressed the recent sentiments made by First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos against her. She affirmed the First Lady’s right to express her feelings, but she emphasized that personal sentiments do not interfere with her governmental duties.
“Bilang tao, karapatan ni Unang Ginang Liza Marcos na makaramdam ng sama ng loob at galit. Subalit ang kanyang personal na damdamin ay walang kinalaman sa aking mandato bilang isang opisyal ng pamahalaan,” said Duterte.
She further indicated a willingness to address the matter privately with Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong Marcos, Jr. to move forward.
“Upang makausad tayo, iiwan na natin sa isang pribadong pag-uusap sa pagitan lamang namin ni Pangulong “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang mga susunod na hakbang,” the Vice President said in a video message posted on her Facebook page.
Vice Pres. Duterte also underscored the pressing issues facing the nation that require the government’s attention, highlighting the importance of focusing on addressing the country’s challenges saying, “Dapat ay nakatutok tayo sa pagtugon sa mga suliraning hinaharap ng ating bansa.”
In an interview of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos with broadcaster Anthony Taberna, she expressed disappointment over VP Duterte’s alleged behavior when she attended a prayer rally in Davao City, stating that it was a “bad shot” and suggesting an apology or explanation from the Vice President.
“You’re in the government, you’re the Vice President. Bad shot na ‘yan sa akin. Unless she says sorry or whatever. She crossed the line,” said the First Lady.
“You ran together, ‘di ba? Sama-sama tayo babangon muli. Pupunta ka sa rally, tatawagin ‘yung presidente mong bangag, ‘di ba, you’re going to laugh, tama ba ‘yan? Even [former vice president Leni Robredo] never did,” she added.
While it remains uncertain if Vice Pres. Duterte indeed laughed at former president Rodrigo Duterte’s remaks against the President, First Lady Marcos said she saw the camera panning at her laughing in the prayer rally.
Pres. Marcos Jr. previously stated that his relationship with Vice Pres. Duterte was complicated.
Furthermore, former presidential spokesperson Atty. Harry Roque reacted to First Lady Marcos’ remarks, pointing out her previous associations and questioning her newfound camaraderie with former vice president Leni Robredo.
