‘We remain ready to help’: DSWD assures no services will be interrupted amid Cabinet revamp

(May 24, 2025) – Despite submitting his courtesy resignation following Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ directive to his Cabinet, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian assured the public that all services of the department will remain unaffected.

In an interview last Friday, May 23, Gatchalian emphasized that the operations of the DSWD will continue without interruption.

“Tama po kayo, tumalima tayo sa utos ng ating Pangulo na mag-submit ng courtesy resignation upang ma recalibrate niya ‘yung Cabinet niya,” Gatchalian said.

“Walang services na maantala, lahat kami ay required na dun pa rin sa aming mga post hanggang sa makapagdesisyon ang ating Pangulo at ang Malacañang tungkol sa aming courtesy resignation.”

Gatchalian explained that all Cabinet members who submitted their resignations are still required to remain in their posts until the President finalizes his decisions.

“So ang assurance ko, ang buong makinarya ng DSWD ay tatakbo, walang serbisyo na maantala. Ready kami tmulong sa bawat mamamayan na kailangan humigi ng tulong,” he added.

President Marcos earlier called for the courtesy resignation of his Cabinet officials as part of what the Palace described as a performance review and possible reorganization.

The move has sparked varying reactions from political analysts and the public, with concerns raised over its timing and implications on governance.

However, Gatchalian’s statement comes as a reassurance to beneficiaries of DSWD programs, especially amid preparations for upcoming relief operations and social assistance distributions nationwide.

As the government undergoes this transition period, the DSWD vows to maintain the quality and continuity of its services to vulnerable sectors, staying committed to its mandate regardless of leadership uncertainties.
