(May 15, 2025)- The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced that winning senators and party-list groups from the recent Bilang Pilipino 2025 elections may be proclaimed as early as this weekend— potentially marking the fastest canvassing and proclamation in the country’s poll history.
As of the second day of official canvassing, the National Board of Canvassers has processed 159 out of 175 certificates of canvass.
With canvassing expected to conclude by Thursday, proclamation of the winners could happen by Saturday or Sunday.
COMELEC chairman George Garcia emphasized the speed of the process, noting that past manual canvassing took up to a month, while automated elections usually required 10 to 14 days.
“‘Yun pong lahat ng mga kandidatong sa palagay nila ay panalo sila, makikihintay naman po. Tutal naman po, ginagawa ng paraan ng lahat ng inyong Commission na mapadali yung canvassing natin,” Garcia said.
Meanwhile, detained senatorial candidate Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, currently ranked 31st with over 5.5 million votes based on partial unofficial results, has called for a manual recount.
Through his spokesperson, Atty. Israeli Torreon, Quiboloy claimed this move aims to strengthen the electoral process.
COMELEC responded that a formal electoral protest must first be filed, and additional legislation and funding would be required to authorize a full manual recount.
The poll body also defended the integrity of the count amid circulating allegations of anomalies and discrepancies, reiterating that it does not issue candidate rankings during canvassing.
“Hindi po nagsusumatotal ang COMELEC, wala rin po kaming ranking sa mga kandidato, bawal po namin gawin yun,” Garcia said.
“Kung may nagbago man ng numero o yung boto na nakuha ay hindi po galing sa amin ‘yun,” he added.
Random manual audits, legally mandated to verify election returns in selected precincts, are already underway.
COMELEC reminded all candidates to submit their Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCEs) by June 11, regardless of election outcome.
