(February 12, 2021) – Popular televangelist Bro. Eliseo “Eli” Soriano has passed away at the age of 73, his religious group announced on Friday morning.
Members Church of God International (MCGI) announced Soriano’s death in a Facebook post.
“It is with deep sadness, yet with full faith in the Almighty, that we announce the passing of our beloved and one and only Bro. Eliseo ‘Eli’ Soriano—a faithful preacher, brother, father, and grandfather to many,” said MCGI.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
Last March, a picture of Soriano showing him in critical condition circulated on social media. MCGI, however, said it was fake, maintaining Soriano “remains safe and in good health.”
Born on April 4, 1947 in Pasay, Soriano was diagnosed with emphysema and congenital heart disease at an early age. He still became a multi-awarded televangelist, most known as the host of the program Ang Dating Daan. It started airing on the radio in 1980 then became a television show three years after, airing in more than 70 countries worldwide.
His flamboyant and fearless style made him a sensation, even with non-believers of his preaching. His colorful debates with those who challenge him were a hit.
Soriano also led several charity works for the poor, providing free medical checkups and student scholarships.
In January 1999, Soriano was indicted for libel for issuing statements against the Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry. Another libel case was filed against him the following year.
Soriano pleaded not guilty, but the court convicted him for both libel cases.
Facing a string of more controversies, including accusations of rape, Soriano went into exile In Brazil, where he continued his Bible exposition and global evangelization to different people around different countries.
Many netizens have reacted to Soriano’s sudden passing.

One even said that despite Soriano’s penchant for swearing, he was still a good preacher.
Not a member of ‘Ang Dating Daan’, but more than his viral heated debates and ?̶?̶?̶?̶?̶?̶?̶?̶ videos, Bro. Eli Soriano was really one of the greatest and most eloquent Bible preachers the contemporary Philippines had. Rest in peace, ka-Eli! ?️
Pakikiramay sa buong MCGI.

MCGI assured that the programs and projects that Soriano has initiated will continue even after his passing.
“Up to the last moments of his life, Bro. Eli was able to fulfill his vow to the Almighty that manifests his love to serve the brethren,” said the group.
