(February 14, 2025) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday vowed that erring personnel will face accountability if they do not adhere to operational procedures and ethical standards.
This came after 10 police officers were accused of using a fake search warrant to carry out a robbery in a woman’s house in Taguig last Sunday. They were wearing civilian clothes.
“The PNP is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and professionalism. Any actions that violate police operational procedures and the rights of our citizens will not be tolerated, and appropriate sanctions will be imposed,” said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil in a statement, as quoted by the Philippine News Agency.
The police officers also allegedly assaulted the woman’s 14-year-old son and confiscated his cellphone. They also reportedly caused injuries to the woman’s daughter, who sustained a head injury while trying to escape.
The woman, who was reportedly acquitted of illegal drug possession in 2022, claimed that P50,000 in cash and three cellphones were missing after the incident. She alleged that the same group of police officers frequently conducts unauthorized raids in their area.
Ten police officers were relieved by the National Capital Region Police Office following the incident. They are facing charges of robbery, grave coercion, physical injury, obstruction of justice, malicious mischief, and violations of Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children against Child Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Law.
“As law enforcers, we are duty-bound to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of every individual. This investigation is not just about accountability but also about reinforcing public trust in the PNP,” added Marbil.
The PNP, even under past leaderships, has repeatedly vowed to weed out “rotten eggs” within its ranks. Police officers, however, continue to get involved in criminal activities, including extrajudicial killings, abuse, bribery, corruption, and drug-selling, among others.
