QC orders closure of a club for refusing to cooperate with contact tracing efforts

(August 26, 2024) – The Quezon City Government has immediately served a Cease and Desist Order and Notice of Violation to a club in E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue for refusing to allow the city’s contact tracing team to conduct investigations and inquiries on the premises in the establishment.

According to the Quezon City government, the City Health Department’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD) visited the establishment to begin contact tracing efforts, following the instructions from the Department of Health (DOH) for potential mpox transmission. However, the management of the establishment allegedly refused to cooperate.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte stated that such refusal to cooperate with contact tracing efforts is considered a threat to public health and safety.

“Itinuturing na banta sa kalusugan at kapakanan ng mga mamamayan ang ganitong pagtanggi sa isinasagawang contact tracing efforts. Maagap ‘yung ginagawa nating pagtugon at imbestigasyon, pero napapatagal at nade-delay dahil ayaw makipag-cooperate,” Belmonte said.

Moreover, the city cited that according to Republic Act No. 11332, or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Concern Act, the non-cooperation of individuals or entities identified as having a notifiable disease or being affected by a public health event is prohibited.

In line with this, Mayor Belmonte has urged business owners to collaborate closely with the city government, particularly on public health issues.

“Nananawagan ako sa mga residente at business owners na makiisa at makipag-cooperate sa mga health event investigation ng lungsod. Ginagawa lang namin ang aming responsibilidad para matiyak na protektado at ligtas ang lahat ng QCitizens,” she said.
