Quezon City declares dengue outbreak; at least 10 deaths recorded this year

(February 15, 2025)- The Quezon City Government, through its city health department, has officially declared a dengue outbreak as cases continue to surge across the city.

The City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (CESD) has recorded 1,769 dengue cases in the city from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14. At least 10 residents, including eight minors, have died from the disease.

About 58% of the cases involve school-aged children between 5 and 17-years-old, and 44% are children aged 1 to 10.

“Our declaration of a dengue outbreak ensures that we are on top of the situation, and we are doing everything we can to protect our residents from this deadly disease, especially our children,” Mayor Belmonte said.

“Mga bata ang karamihan sa mga nagiging biktima ng nakamamatay na sakit na ito. Kaya nananawagan ako sa mga kapwa ko magulang na sama-sama nating protektahan ang ating mga anak laban sa dengue. Maging alerto tayo sa mga nararamdaman ng ating anak at manguna sa mga clean-up drive sa ating mga komunidad,” the mayor urged.

Moreover, fever express lanes are being set up at health centers and hospitals for swift diagnosis and treatment. Free dengue test kits are also available at these facilities.

The city has deployed barangay spraying teams, guided by sanitary inspectors, to conduct chemical controls like fogging and spraying in areas with clusters of dengue cases.

Larviciding efforts are underway to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in stagnant water sources.

The city is also conducting dengue awareness forums and assemblies in barangays to educate the public about the disease and its prevention. Barangay officials and school administrators are being briefed to ensure full cooperation in controlling the outbreak.

Mayor Belmonte concluded, “Kung may nararamdaman na kayong sintomas ng dengue tulad ng lagnat, sakit ng ulo, at pananakit ng kasu-kasuan, pumunta na kayo agad sa pinakamalapit na health center sa inyong lugar.”
