(April 9, 2021) – With concerns regarding the safety and efficacy of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine, a woman reported her father suffered a stroke due to severe side effects after receiving the shot last March 29 in Caloocan.
Nicole Totanis posted on Facebook on Thursday, sharing the unfortunate story of her father, who has diabetes and hypersensitivity.
The post has since gone viral with over 38,000 shares and 17,000 reactions.
Totanis got her father admitted to Caloocan City North Medical Center (CCNMC) but was later discharged after the hospital ruled the side effects he experienced were common for Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The same side effects, however, continued in the ensuing days and he was brought back to CCNMC.
After receiving her father’s test results, Totanis said they were forced to look for other hospitals that can accommodate and admit her father.
She said they were turned down by other hospitals such as Bermudez Hospital in Caloocan and San Lorenzo Hospital and Commonwealth Hospital, both in Quezon City. They finally got admitted to East Avenue Medical Center, but things got worse.
Parang may dugo.
Her father already tested negative for COVID-19 but a third CT scan showed swelling in his brain.
The Department of Health (DOH) said Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine will be used for those with controlled comorbidities, adding those with diabetes, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney diseases, and obesity will be prioritized.
The DOH recently announced that the controversial dose from China will also be given to senior citizens after latest data showed improved efficacy and safety.
Two million of the available 2.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country are Sinovac.
