(February 2, 2024) — Vice Pre. Sara Duterte-Carpio said on Saturday that she is carefully deliberating her potential involvement in the upcoming 2025 elections, particularly regarding the endorsement of candidates.
Duterte expressed uncertainty about whether her endorsements would help or harm those seeking electoral positions.
“Hindi ko alam kung makakatulong o makakasama sa mga kandidato ang pag-endorso ko sa kanila,” Duterte-Carpio said in an exclusive interview with News5.
“Pinag-iisipan ko ‘yun nang maayos dahil kung ang hindi pag-endorso ay makatutulong sa isang kandidato, gagawin ko ‘yun.”
PDP-Laban bets and reelectionists Sen. Bato dela Rosa and Bong Go, known as close allies of the Dutertes, have continuously expressed support for the Vice President amid controversies.
Duterte-Carpio is currently facing three impeachment complaints, all accusing her of betrayal of public trust, among others, over the alleged misuse of more than P600-million in confidential funds.
Recently, Dela Rosa claimed that a wealthy “Piattos” family had lived in Davao for a “long time.”
This statement followed the appearance of a certain “Mary Grace Piattos” during a House inquiry as the alleged recipient of confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
Lawmakers suspect the name was fabricated to justify how the funds were spent within just 11 days. Last December, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) confirmed that no civil registry records exist for anyone named “Mary Grace Piattos.”
Former Senator Kiko Pangilinan even challenged Dela Rosa to prove the existence of “Mary Grace Piattos.”

In January, over 1.5 million members of the religious group Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) attended a rally at Quirino Grandstand in Manila to call for national peace and unity.
Among the political figures present were Dela Rosa and Go, who refuted claims of politicizing the rally.
Before the peace rally, even SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, also an INC member, emphasized that the rally advocated peace and was not necessarily about taking sides with Duterte-Carpio.
“I am for peace,” Go, meanwhile, said in an interview.
“Ibig sabihin, inihalal po ang ating Presidente, inihalal po ang ating Bise Presidente. So Ine-expect ng taumbayan sa loob ng anim na taon, magtrabaho po sila para sa kapakanan ng mga kababayan nating mahihirap.”
Also, last November, only Dela Rosa and Go spoke before the Senate, pledging to restore the funds cut from the OVP’s budget.
Despite this, lawmakers approved a P733-million budget for the OVP in the 2025 national budget, significantly down from the proposed budget of P2.037 billion.
The budget cuts followed tensions between Duterte-Carpio and some House committee members over her refusal to defend the budget and answer allegations of fund misuse.
Last Saturday, Duterte-Carpio openly declared that she is “seriously considering” running for president in the 2028 national elections.
“Dahil sa mga nakikita natin sa bayan natin na dapat ayusin, dapat baguhin, kailangan maging competitive tayo. [N]apag-iiwanan na ang Pilipinas, ayaw natin ‘yun,” VP Duterte said.
