(July 2, 2024) — Lexter Castro, tagged online as “Boy Dila,” formally apologized on Tuesday after a viral video showed him dousing a rider using a water gun during San Juan City’s Wattah Wattah Festival.
The 21-year-old resident, accompanied by his grandmother and the barangay captain of Balong Bato, made his apology at the office of San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora.
Castro expressed his desire to personally apologize to the rider. He also offered to provide the rider with a helmet and a raincoat.
“Boy Dila” asked the public to spare his family from the backlash and threats he has been receiving because of the incident. He also appealed to netizens to stop making fake bookings and deliveries addressed to his residence.
Due to the lack of any violation of a city ordinance, Zamora said that no charges could be filed against Castro unless the affected rider or other motorists impacted by his actions choose to file a complaint.
“Kung sakaling ‘yung rider na binasa niya, nasira ang cellphone o ‘di kaya’y laptop, puwede siyang kasuhan ng reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property. Pero depende ngayon ‘yan kung ‘yung rider na ito ay pupunta dito upang mag-file ng complaint,” the mayor said.
Zamora said that he could arrange a meeting between Castro and the rider for a personal apology.
Meanwhile, the mayor urged those who were affected by unruly behavior during the festival to visit the city mayor’s office to lodge a formal complaint.
San Juan City held its annual Wattah Wattah Festival or Basaan Festival last June 24 in celebration of its patron saint St. John the Baptist.
