(February 16, 2022) – Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday said she chooses to focus on delivering services to the people instead of giving attention to the insults she continuously receives, stressing that showing results through her hard work is her way of combating the demeaning remarks hurled against her.
Robredo, an independent presidential candidate in the 2022 elections, said the needs of Filipinos should be the top priority of public officials since they’re sworn to serve their constituents well.
Robredo, the country’s opposition leader, has been a frequent target of disinformation on social media, with many also hurling personal jabs at her. Media organizations that are part of fact-checking networks have confirmed that she has been the top victim of false information online.
Most of the recent posts of peddlers of fake news attack Robredo in what many see as an effort to undermine her candidacy. Many posts are also deliberately taking her statements out of context to reinforce the thought that she’s incompetent, recklessly branding her as “dumb” or “stupid.”
In a recent interview, Robredo claimed that she typically works around 18 hours per day but her critics accused her of lying. No less than Sen. Imee Marcos, the sister of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos Jr., mocked this statement in a controversial online video that has racked up millions of views. However, she insisted the video was only “satire.”
Robredo maintained that she has no time to dedicate her attention to these forms of attacks given the heavy workload she takes on.
Maraming pagpapakasira. Pinaniniwalaan ‘yung pagpapakasira dahil ang daming fake news online.”
Robredo, the only woman vying for the presidency, vowed to respond to the people’s demands to restore their trust in the government, citing the extensive contributions made through her Angat Buhay program, which is aimed at combating poverty.
Robredo said, no matter what, she’s confident that she was able to fulfill her job over the last five and a half years.
She also encouraged the people to choose the right leader who would ensure their involvement in policy-making to help address their long-standing concerns.
At nasa inyong mga kamay ‘yung milagrong ‘yun,” said Robredo.
