(January 7, 2021) – At least four male friends, who police said were responsible for the New Year’s Day death of a Philippine Airlines cabin crew, on Thursday vehemently denied they took part in raping and killing her, promising to cooperate with investigation.
In a news conference, they narrated Christine Dacera’s conditions hours before she was found unresponsive in a hotel room bathtub after an all-night partying. They also confessed they were not attracted to the 23-year-old flight attendant because all of them are gay.
One of Dacera’s friends, Valentine Rosales, dismissed claims made by Police General Debold Sinas, describing the complaint against them as “absurd”.
“Imposibleng may rape kasi gay po kami,” Rosales said. “Wala po talagang straight na lalaki sa party na yun … Pag bakla naimpluwensyahan ng alak, nagiging lalaki? Ikaw lalaki ka, kuya, lasingin kita tapos aakitin kita, re-rape-in mo ba ako? ‘Di ba that’s absurd? Common logic lang po.”

They also said they did not see any party drugs during their New Year’s Eve celebration, another lead the police wanted to pursue as a possible angle in the case.

The Makati City prosecutor has also demanded from the police a toxicology report to determine what killed and how Dacera died.
“Wala kaming guilt kasi the last moments with Tin ay sa room doon sa tub, lahat kami inaalagan sya, tinatry namin siyang alagaan dahil suka na sya nang suka two hours before ako matulog,” said Rosales.
Clark Rapinan, a nurse, also shared the same narrative. “Di namin kayang gawin sa kanya (yung mga paratang) at di kami ganung klaseng tao … Yung paratang na binaboy namin sya, ni-rape, walang ganun. Di namin kayang gawin yun dahil mahal na mahal namin siya.”
Their lawyer, Mike Santiago, told journalists they are not hiding from authorities and would give their sworn statements to the Makati City prosecutor’s office next week in a preliminary investigation.
“They have already suffered enough but will still be suffering while facing the charges against them,” Santiago said.
“It’s unfortunate that my clients were detained for about six days although they simply helped, assisted and cared for Christine Dacera during her last moments on Earth.”
Three of Dacera’s friends were detained after the Makati police filed a complaint before the prosecutor’s office, holding them responsible for her death. But, the prosecutor ordered them freed and threw back the rape with homicide complaint to the police who were told to gather and submit more evidence.

Santiago said none of his clients are hiding, but they would no longer give any statement to the police since a preliminary investigation is underway at the local prosecutor.
“I advised the investigating police officer that in the matter of preliminary investigation, we are already submitting to the agency of the Office of the City Prosecutor in Makati; hence, we will no longer issue any statement to the CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) and other police investigating the case,” Santiago said.
The lawyer also believed there is no need to consolidate the statements of all the accused saying, “They are telling the truth.”
National Police General Debold Sinas has insisted there was foul play, speculating the flight attendant was raped and killed without showing adequate proof to substantiate his claims.
He stood by his statements, claiming he has proof but he cannot disclose it to the public. He declined to comment on the police’s medico-legal report indicating Dacera died due to a ruptured aortic aneurysm.
The National Bureau of Investigation has conducted a second autopsy on Dacera’s body after her family asked for an independent analysis to find out the real cause of death of the flight attendant who worked at the Philippine Airlines. The agency has yet to give an update on this as of press time.
