(OCTOBER 24, 2019) – A lawyer and defeated candidate in the last senate elections on Thursday volunteered to implement the Supreme Court’s three month suspension order.
Larry Gadon wrote a letter to the high bench to accept the court suspension, claiming he had not officially received the order and learned it only in the media, weeks after a decision on his disbarment case was issued.
Gadon was suspended for three months by virtue of a resolution dated June 26, which stemmed from a 2009 disbarment case filed by a dermatologist after the lawyer used “abusive” and “intemperate” language. The SC said these “lessened the confidence of the public in the Philippine judicial system.”
In his letter, he said he will voluntarily go on suspension in order to “take advantage of the forthcoming holiday season,” when there’s little to no work done.
“Since I have not officially received the Order of Suspension, which I only learned from the media, today, October 24, I filed a letter of voluntary service of suspension,” Gadon said in a statement.
The controversial lawyer is serving as as legal counsel for Peter “Bikoy” Advincula in the sedition complaint against several members of the opposition, including Vice President Leni Robredo.
He said the suspension order “does not really matter” because he has not appeared in any court hearings for almost five years already.
Gadon has also failed to attend compulsory seminars for lawyers for the past decade.
Last year, Gadon became prominent for calling protesters supporting a former chief justice Lourdes Sereno “mga bobo” or stupid, and flipping them off outside the Supreme Court compound in Baguio City. (Randell Ritumalta/MM)
