(October 7, 2021) – Projecting an image of a civilized leader, President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday contradicted himself once again, insisting that his weekly public addresses are not for insulting people but later on castigated Sen. Richard Gordon anew.
Duterte appealed for respect for his officials once again in the same breath that he hurled below-the-belt tirades against Gordon, who’s leading the Senate investigation into the government’s anomalous deals involving COVID-19 supplies.
“Ang purpose nito (Talk to the People), hindi mang-insulto, walang insultuhan dito,” said Duterte. “Everybody behaves according to the norms of what a citizen of this country should be. It should be, you know, respetado—we respect each other and everything.”
But just minutes later, Duterte contradicted his statement as he went on to accuse Gordon of stealing P86 million through his Priority Development Assistance Fund. He also spouted invectives while insulting the physical appearance of Gordon once again.
Duterte also threatened to assault Gordon when they see each other in person if he wouldn’t return the funds he allegedly stole. The tough-talking leader has been rehashing the same claim for weeks now but he has not issued any evidence.
“Retired man ako, matatalo ka man, hahabulin kita. Now, ‘pag inabot kita, sapakin ko ‘yung ulo mo, bakit tinakbo mo ‘yung pera ng gobyerno?” said Duterte. “‘Yang katawan mo? Isang wallop lang ‘yan. Huwag ka ngang mayabang. T*** i**** Gordon na ‘to.”
Duterte has been obsessed with Gordon for drilling into the government’s questionable transactions with Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation. It supplied P11.7 billion worth of face masks, face shields, and test kits to the government despite its low paid-up capital of P625,000.
The Senate probe revealed that Duterte’s former economic adviser Michael Yang served as the company’s financier and guarantor.
Duterte, who also insulted Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, once again decried the insults that his allies allegedly received from the senators, prompting him to bar his Cabinet officials from attending the hearings.
He defended the legality of the move despite opinions from legal luminaries and prominent lawyers’ organizations stressing its unconstitutionality. Duterte urged senators to just let the Supreme Court decide if the alleged corruption issue has merit instead of pushing through with their investigation, accusing them of “politicking.”
“(With) the risk of sounding like a broken record, I now repeat my call and challenge to the Senate blue ribbon committee: Kung mayroon kayong ebidensya, mag-file kayo ng kaso. That is how simple it is and that is how simple it should be,” said Duterte.
Duterte ended his latest speech by cursing Gordon.
“Ito ano lang, Dick—you should pronounce your name properly, Dick. ‘Yung kurbata mo bumili ka na ng medyo malaki (kasi) ‘yang tiyan mo nahuhulog na doon sa puson mo, p***** i** ka,” said Duterte.
