(July 11, 2024) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it is verifying a claim that fugitive Apollo Quiboloy has now fled to China as he continues to evade arrest.
On Wednesday, Quibiloy’s legal counsel, Atty. Isrealito Torreon, said the self-styed pastor may have gone to China. He did not present any evidence or expound on his claim.
“There is also a possibility na dumaan siya sa backdoor pero lahat ‘yan ay vine-verify pa natin. But as we speak, naniniwala tayo there are indications na nandito pa naman ‘yung mga hinahanap natin,” said PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. challenged Quiboloy to show up following the remark of Torreon.
Quiboloy is facing charges of human trafficking and child abuse in connection with his Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Two arrest warrants have been issued against him.
Meanwhile, the PNP defended the P10 million reward offered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for any information that would lead to Quiboloy’s arrest.
Quiboloy’s camp questioned the move, citing the government shouldn’t be receiving money from private individuals.
“This is not the first time a private citizen offered a reward. Alam natin kapag may mga heinous crimes, even ‘yung families ng victims, mga sibilyan, ay nag-o-offer,” said Fajardo.
She noted that DILG’s announcement has led to a surge of calls to the PNP, which needs extra caution.
“Baka meron diyan na tatawag para lang sabihin na nandito, para lang iligaw ‘yung ating mga imbestigador at ating mga operatiba. That’s why we are carefully validating every information,” added Fajardo.
Fajardo also urged the public to refrain from making jokes.
Former president Rodrigo Duterte recently claimed to know Quiboloy’s location but said it was a secret. He was defended by his allies, saying he was only joking. Quiboloy is a close ally of Duterte.
“All of us know ‘yung personality ng (dating pangulo). Pero ’yung mga ganito na seryosong mga bagay ay sana hindi natin ginagawang biro. Huwag natin kalimutan na yung kabilang parte na sumisigaw ng hustisya, may mga bata na allegedly minolestiya at naging subject for trafficking,” reminded Fajardo.
