(September 14, 2024) – Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Friday said no arrest warrant has been served yet at his office, denying earlier reports that he refused to receive the document.
An arrest order was issued against him by the quad committee of the House of Representatives after being cited in contempt anew on Thursday for repeatedly ignoring a subpoena that demanded he submit his Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth from 2016-2022.
Previous reports, citing lower chamber secretary general Reginald Velasco, said his office in Makati refused to receive the arrest warrant.
“Wala pa pong nag-serve ng warrant of arrest from Congress sa aking opisina ngayong araw,” wrote Roque in a Facebook post.
Roque is also being ordered to submit the income tax returns and medical certificates of his wife, Maila Roque, from 2014-2022, documents related to the extrajudicial settlement of his late aunt’s estate, and details of a 1.8-hectare property his family sold in Parañaque.
He cannot be located allegedly, as of writing.
The quad committee is investigating the alleged links of former president Rodrigo Duterte’s deadly war on drugs, Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), and the drug trade.
On Thursday, Roque called the probe a “kangaroo hearing.”
“Isa itong fishing expedition. Dahil wala nga silang makitang matibay na ebidensiya na mag-uugnay sa akin sa iligal na POGO, tinangka nilang lumambat ng ebidensya na tutugma sa kanilang kuwento,” said Roque in a statement.
While denying involvement with POGOs, Roque admitted providing legal advice to Whirlwind Corp., which owned the land where a raided POGO hub was located in Porac, Pampanga.
He also admitted his “interest” in the company that owns a raided house in Benguet used by POGO workers.
Surigao Rep. Robert Ace Barbers urged Roque to attend the hearing and address the allegations directly.
“Hindi naman sila inaakusahan,” said Barbers in a media forum on Saturday. “Gusto lang natin marinig ‘yung kanilang panig.”
