(February 24, 2021) – Two men were wounded when an early Wednesday evening shootout happened near a shopping mall, police said as traffic stood still for hours and people scampered for safety.
Police rushed near the Ever Gotesco shopping mall after bullets started flying in all directions. It was unclear who was involved in the shootout as the shopping mall closed all entrances to protect shoppers and businesses.
“We have confirmed reports of a shootout that happened earlier outside of Ever Commonwealth,” the mall management posted on its Facebook page.
“Our priority right now is to ensure the safety of the employees and the public. The management is closely coordinating with the PNP of the current situation. Please bear with us as we allow the authorities to handle the situation.”
In a tweet, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said firefight erupted at around 6:08 p.m. forcing traffic enforcers to shut down the eastbound lane of the wide Commonwealth Avenue.
