(May 16, 2025) – The Malacañang on Friday slammed senator-elect Bato Dela Rosa for taking the “obstructionists” remark as a threat amid the call of Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. for unity among the winning candidates of the 20th Congress.
On Wednesday, Presidential Communications Office undersecretary Claire Castro said the Malacañang will fight against “obstructionists” who pretend to be “oppositionists” who only seek “selfish interests.”
In response, Dela Rosa said if the administration wants a “good relationship and proper cooperation,” it shouldn’t threaten senators.
She maintained that she wasn’t threatening anyone.
Dela Rosa is a staunch supporter of former president Rodrigo Duterte, the father of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio. Marcos and Duterte-Carpio have been feuding since last year.
Among the senatorial candidates endorsed by Duterte-Carpio, Dela Rosa, Sen. Bong Go, Sen. Imee Marcos, SAGIP Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar are in the top 12, according to the final tally of the Commission on Elections.
They are joined by the senatorial bets of the administration: Sen. Pia Cayetano, Sen. Lito Lapid, ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo, Ping Lacson, and Tito Sotto.
The bickering between the camps of Marcos and Duterte-Carpio worsened when Duterte was arrested by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and detained in The Hague, Netherlands.
Dela Rosa could also suffer the same fate as he is also being investigated by the ICC.
