Inflation eases to 1.4% in April 2025 — PSA

(May 6, 2025) – The Philippines’ headline inflation further slowed to 1.4% in April 2025, according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This is lower than the recorded 1.8% inflation rate in March.

According to the PSA, the main drivers to the downward trend in headline inflation in April were the slower annual increase in the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which was at 0.9% in April compared to 2.2% in March.

Also contributed were the faster year-on-year decline in the transport index at 2.1% in April from the 1.1% in the previous month.

Slower annual increases were also observed in the following commodity group indices in April 2025 such as the clothing and footwear recorded at 1.6% from 1.8%, personal care recorded at 0.3% from 0.4 %, and miscellaneous goods and services at 2.5% from 2.6%.

On the other hand, according to PSA the top three commodity groups that contributed to the overall inflation rate of 1.4% in April 2025 were the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with the 39.5 % share, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 24.6% share, and restaurants and accommodation services with 15.2% share.

Meanwhile, the food inflation at the national level eased to 0.7 % in April 2025 from 2.3 %in March 2025. The main drivers of the downward trend of food inflation was primarily brought by aster year-on-year decline of rice index at 10.9%, followed by the slower inflation rates of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 2.3% and fish and other seafood at 4.3% in April 2025.

The PSA noted lower inflation rates during in April in the following food groups including Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, fruits and nuts and Ready-made food and other food products.
