(June 9, 2025) – The majority of Filipinos call to proceed with the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio despite moves to delay and dismiss the proceedings, according to a survey released on Monday.
OCTA Research Group found that 78 percent of Filipinos want Duterte-Carpio to undergo a trial before the Senate to clear her name from the charges.
“Support for the Vice President facing trial is consistently high across all major regions, ranging from 73 percent to 77 percent. The highest support was recorded in the Visayas, while the lowest was in Balance Luzon,” the OCTA Research reads.
“Across socio-economic classes, support is similarly strong and consistent, with agreement ranging from 78 percent to 81 percent,” it added.
The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews among 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above from April 20 to 24.
Moreover, the result calls for the Senate to proceed with the impeachment trial for the VP Sara after being stalled for four months.

According to Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the upper chamber did not proceed with the impeachment because it was in recess for the campaign period of the 2025 midterm elections and proposed that the trials begin in July.
Last May, Escudero announced the postponement of the presentation of the articles of impeachment by the prosecution panel of the House of Representatives to June 2 from June 11 for the Congress to prioritize measures before it adjourns on June 30.
The idea of the impeachment being dismissed if the Senate couldn’t conclude it before the 19th Congress ended also floated.

Various sectors have criticized these developments, lamenting the Senate’s alleged failure to act “forthwith” with the impeachment, according to Section 3 of Article XI of the 1987 Constitution.

“A significant 91 percent of adult Filipinos are aware of the impeachment cases filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, highlighting strong public awareness and interest in the Issue,” said OCTA Research.
On February 5, 215 lawmakers in the House of Representatives voted to impeach Duterte-Carpio due to her alleged misuse of confidential funds and grave threats to Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, among constitutional violations.
