(May 6, 2022) – A former senator on Thursday trumpeted calls against the possible return of the late dictator’s family to Malacañang, as his only son and namesake, presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos Jr., continues to dominate the surveys.
Nikki Coseteng, who served in the Senate from 1992 to 2001, believes that the people should not choose Marcos because of his questionable track record when it comes to public service. Coseteng openly supports Vice President Leni Robredo.
“I would rather intelligently and emotionally cast my lot with her because I think she’s of a different stuff and of a different mold,” said Coseteng on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).
Coseteng also claimed that Marcos did not really work because he was busy partying with his friends and doing drugs, noting that this was an open secret while the Marcoses were still in power.
“All they did was go to the disco. And they were always high on drugs. And I know them. They’re the very same people supporting him today,” said Coseteng.
That portion of the interview immediately went on viral. Netizens also recalled the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte in a past speech last November wherein he claimed that a presidential candidate was into cocaine.
Marcos, the presidential bet of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, believed he was not the one being alluded to by the tough-talking leader. But he still chose to voluntarily subject himself to a cocaine test and showed he tested negative.
Marcos’ camp has yet to comment on the allegations raised by Coseteng.

Earlier, she published an open letter where she cited her fears if Marcos succeeds in his presidential bid. She anticipates that chaos, plunder, and poverty, which were the hallmark of his father’s abusive and kleptocratic rule, would become more rampant if the Marcoses would gain power once again.
Coseteng acknowledged in her post that social media helped perpetuate the falsehoods and propaganda of the controversial family. She lamented how the administrations that came after the late dictator were unable to counter these early on to avoid blurring the lines between the truth and the lies.
“This is significant. However, the other side never really bothered to correct it. Because maybe they thought, ‘Hayaan mo, puro kasinungalingan naman ‘yan eh, kaya okay lang, it’s not going to flourish.’ But you know a lie when told a million times to many, it becomes the truth,” said Coseteng on ANC.
She advised voters not to think of their own sake alone because the whole nation will be affected by the next administration’s policies.
“When only you are prosperous and everyone else is poor, then you have a social tinderbox. It can blow up anytime and it can blow up with you in it. And that’s the thing I don’t want to happen,” said Coseteng.
