(August 30, 2024) — Filipino actor Carlo Aquino and Emmy-nominated Hollywood star Takehiro Hira will star in the film “Crosspoint,” a collaborative project between the Philippine independent production company High Road Creatives and Japan’s 034 Productions.
Shot in Tokyo, “Crosspoint” revolves around the story of Manuel Hidalgo (played by Aquino), who was once an A-list actor in the Philippines, who hit a dry patch which forced him to go to Japan and earn a living while performing illegally at Filipino pubs there.
Manuel then meets Shigeru Watanabe (played by Hira), a mid-50s construction manager who recently declared bankruptcy to somehow save himself from legal obligations from his debts and is looking for a way out.
Together, they chance upon an opportunity and team up to get some reward money by capturing a high-profile serial killer at large. If things would go according to their plan, this could solve their problems and they can have a second chance in life.
Can this unlikely pair of a middle-aged man and an actor of different worlds with no police or military training outmatch an unpredictable and psychotic killer?
“Crosspoint” is directed by Japan-based Filipino filmmaker Donie Ordiales, who shared that the characters in the movie were inspired by real people he met in Japan. He challenged himself how to combine the stories of these people.
“We chose Carlo dahil napaka-versatile and [he’s a] very good actor. We got the same vibes with Hira-san kaya kinuha namin siya, plus magaling din [siyang] magsalita ng English,” according to the film’s producer Ravien Bracero.
Joining Aquino and Hira are Filipino actors Sarah Jane Abad, Ian de Leon, Zeppi Borromeo, Dindo Arroyo, Polo Ravales and Filipino-Japanese actress Kei Kurosawa among others.
“Crosspoint” is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2024.
