(June 15, 2025) – Filipinos in Israel will receive the same level of protection as Israeli nationals amid Iran’s continuing air strikes, the Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines said on Saturday.
In a statement, Ambassador Ian Fuss said the Israeli government is in close coordination with the Philippine embassy and the Filipino community in Israel.
“Israel is defending itself, and we have a lot of air defense systems that are operational. Unfortunately, of course, we do have missiles that did hit the targets in Israel,” said Fluss.
“We have a lot of foreigners in Israel, including Filipinos, and we are giving the same safety (measures) that we give to Israelis to foreigners and Filipinos.”
On early Friday, Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and military commanders in a bid to stop Tehran from producing nuclear warheads.
Iran vowed to retaliate and has since launched around 100 drones toward Israel in what Tehran described as “a declaration of war.”
Fluss reported three people were killed after Iran launched strikes that began on Friday night.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed said that four Filipinos have been reported injured so far. DFA data show there are 30,742 Filipinos in Israel and around 1,180 in Iran, most of whom are married to Iranian citizens.
Fluss said Israel’s military action was necessary to counter what he described as an “existential threat” from Iran. He pointed to Iran’s nuclear activities and missile development as major security concerns.
The exchange of strikes has raised fears of a broader regional conflict. Israel has shut down its airspace, and Fluss said there is no clear timeline yet for when it will reopen. Israelis worldwide have also been urged to stay vigilant and avoid displaying Jewish or Israeli symbols in public.
In Manila, Fluss said the Israeli Embassy remains operational as officials continue to monitor the situation.
“It’s not that the Israeli Embassy is closed. We’ll do an assessment, and we’ll see how we continue to operate in the coming days,” said Fluss.
