(June 15, 2025) – Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss said his country is committed to protecting all civilians within its territory, including Filipinos, as tensions with Iran escalate.
“We are giving the same safety mechanisms to Israelis as we give to foreigners, to Filipinos,” said Fluss in an online media conference on Saturday.
According to the latest figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs, there are over 30,000 and more than 1,000 Filipinos in Israel and Iran, respectively.
On Saturday, the Department of Migrant Workers assured overseas Filipino workers and their families of assistance amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“We are doing as much as we can to avoid, minimize casualties to uninvolved civilians,” added Fluss.

Fluss’ remarks came after Iran launched a missile strike against Israel in what Tehran described as retaliation for Jerusalem’s bombing of its nuclear and military facilities. The Israeli strikes reportedly killed 78 people, including six senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders and nine nuclear scientists.

Last year, both countries directly targeted each other on separate occasions.
The Israeli ambassador claimed that Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs pose a direct threat to Israel’s existence.
“The plan of Iran is [to] destroy [the] state of Israel, and this was expressed openly by the leadership of Iran now and again. Not once but twice,” he said.
Israel itself has neither confirmed nor denied having nuclear weapons.
Further, experts have argued that Jerusalem’s policy of nuclear ambiguity undermines global nonproliferation efforts and damages the credibility of international norms.
Israel has never signed or ratified the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and pursuing disarmament.
Iran and Israel have been involved in the so-called shadow war – a form of warfare where involved parties operate in a gray area between peace and open conflict to achieve their goals – since the early 1980s due to ideological rivalry, among other reasons.
