(June 16, 2025) – Atty. Kristina Conti, an assistant to counsel at the International Criminal Court (ICC), slammed on Monday the claim by the camp of former President Rodrigo Duterte that he no longer holds power as one of the grounds for his interim release.
She challenged the assertion of Duterte’s legal counsel, Nicholas Kaufman, in the 16-page request, citing the enduring influence of his family and allies in Philippine politics.

“Kakaiba nga ‘yung pagkakabanggit niya [Duterte] na hindi na raw siya powerful ngayon. Lokohin mo lelang mo. Parang ‘yung mga biktima nga mismo, sinasabi na, “saang banda siya hindi powerful?” said Conti in Ted Failon DJ Chacha sa True FM.
Conti also warned that the Duterte family’s alleged access to resources cast doubt on their “powerless” claims.
“Daang milyon ang tinatanggap ‘di umano bilang bahagi ng lagay ng mga drug lord sa drug trade and drug smuggling na natanggap ng Duterte family. Hindi namin masasabi na powerless ang pamilyang ito,” she added.
Further, lawyers of the families of the victims of the Duterte administration’s controversial war on drugs will submit a formal opposition to Duterte’s provisional release request before the ICC pre-trial chamber before June ends.

Duterte has been detained at the ICC detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands since March while being investigated for crimes against humanity due to his bloody drug war.
Moreover, his confirmation of charges is set for September, which will determine if the case proceeds to a trial.
