(March 23, 2024)- Sen. Imee Marcos on Saturday addressed issues regarding the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign rally in Cavite, where Pres. Bongbong Marcos introduced the administration’s senatorial candidates but notably omitted mentioning her name.
This came a day after she initiated an investigation into the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Yung tungkol sa rally na hindi na ko binaggit, okay lang tiisan tayo, wala tayong magawa. Sinabi ko naman simula’t sapul, baka mauwi ito sa away-away ng dalawang panig. Ayaw ko maipit,” Sen. Marcos said in a Pandesal Forum.
“Sinabi na ko nung umpisa pa… kaya sabi ko independent nalang ako. Pupunta ako sa rally kung saan barkada ko ‘yung lokal, ‘yung host.”
On Saturday night, his brother, Pres. Marcos also skipped mentioning her name in the Alyansa’s campaign rally in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
He enumerated the names of the senatorial candidates under his administration, including Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar, who was unable to attend the rally.
“Magkaisa po tayo sa ating alyansa at huwag nating gawing alyansa lamang nitong sampu, 11 na tao, 11 na kandidato na tumatakbo bilang senador na kasama sa alyansa,” said Pres. Marcos.
The presidential sister further called for an end to the growing political tension between the Marcos and Duterte families, stressing the importance of national unity over political differences.
“Wala talaga akong balak sirain ang administrasyon ng kapatid ko,” Sen. Marcos said, clarifying that she has no intention of undermining the leadership of her brother.
Sen. Marcos addressed the political discord, urging both camps to avoid escalating the conflict.
“Wag na natin sabihin na sinadya [ang pag-akaaresto], kung ano sinasabi [ng mga tao],” she said, emphasizing the need for clarity and reconciliation.
Sen. Marcos warned about the dangers of prolonged division, saying, “Wala na tayong republika kapag hinayaan nang hinayaan.”
She stressed that the issue transcends family and political affiliations, adding, “This is way past Marcoses or Dutertes or politics or the elections — this is really the most important argument today.”
