(October 5, 2024) – Former vice president Atty. Leni Robredo has officially filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor of Naga City on Saturday, marking her return to local politics after her national stint.
Robredo was accompanied by his running mate 3rd District Camarines Sur Cong. Gabby Bordado and other candidates under Team Naga.
In a media interview, Robredo said that she has no plans for a presidential campaign in 2028.
“Walang ganoon [running for national seat]. Tingin ko magiging unfair para sa [Naga] City kung gagamitin ko lang ‘yung pagka-mayor bilang jump-off point. Tingin ko hindi ako magiging effective na mayor ‘pag iniisip ko agad ‘yung 2028 [elections],” she emphasized.
“If ever na magkaroon ulit ng opportunity in the future, kailangan naka-base ‘yun sa performance ko as mayor, hindi dahil pinagplanuhan kong kumandidato ulit sa national,” Atty. Robredo added.
Her campaign focuses on local governance, continuing the legacy of her late husband, Jesse Robredo, who also served as Naga’s mayor.
According to Robredo, her efforts to run for the local elections aims to regain the trust of Naga’s residents in genuine governance. This involves empowering the community, ensuring representation for all sectors, enhancing transparency and accountability, and transforming Naga City into a hub for innovative programs.
“Nung nagkandidato ‘yung asawa ko [Jesse Roredo] walang-wala pa ‘yung Naga noon. Talagang ‘yung battle cry noon economic progress pero over the years nakuha na natin ‘yun. Ngayon gusto natin siguruhin ‘yung economic progress dito sa amin, mas inclusive,” she said.
Robredo’s candidacy signals her dedication to her hometown, leaving her political future beyond the city open for now.
