Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the country ran a total of 8,637 tests on Sunday with coronavirus testing facilities now at 26.
This came two weeks from the target of running 8,000 to 10,000 screenings by end-April. In total, the facilities had conducted 173,144 tests on 158,176 individuals.
Government had set a new goal of 30,000 screenings by May 30 after missing its earlier goal.

Vergeire said Metro Manila accounts for 162 of the 292 new cases, followed by Central Visayas with 74 infections, a region being monitored by authorities amid the rise in cases over the past few days which began in Cebu City.
Other regions, meanwhile, tallied 56 persons testing positive for the COVID-19.
Some 75 more had returned to health as of May 11. This brings the total recoveries to 1,999.
Seven more coronavirus patients, however, had succumbed to the disease, bringing the country’s fatalities to 726.
President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to make a decision today on whether to extend the nearly two-month lockdown in the capital region or begin easing restrictions in some cities.

The government had relaxed quarantine measures in regions which reported low infection rates, a scenario eyed by some for Metro Manila despite the continuing rise in cases.
Over the weekend, Metro Manila local chief executives suggested another extension of the lockdown among its proposals to the crisis panel dealing with the pandemic. (Christian de Lano Deiparine/JBS)
