(February 4, 2021) – The hotel in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where a slain Filipina worked is being investigated for possible liability to the crime after it took almost a year to find her missing body, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Thursday.
Mary Anne Daynolo was found dead on January 19 at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi where she worked as a receptionist, nearly 10 months since she was reported missing last March.
“Hinahabol din namin ang kanyang employer sa Abu Dhabi kaya pananagutin. Pinaiimbesitgan namin sa labor attache para alamin namin bakit it took almost a year na hanapin yung labi ni Mary Anne. Tingin ko may kapabayan din hotel,” said DOLE secretary Silvestre Bello III in an interview with Ted Failon and DJ Chacha sa Radyo5.
Bello said Daynolo’s parents have already requested an autopsy to determine if the cadaver is indeed their 30-year-old daughter due to the body being “unrecognizable.”
“Almost a year nawala ‘yung ating kababayan so ‘yung kanyang labi masyadong mataas na decomposition, halos ‘di na makilala. Pina-autopsy namin sa NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) para alamin kung siya talaga ‘yun,” said Bello.
Bello assured they are working on achieving full justice after one of the suspects, Daynolo’s boyfriend from Uganda who was also her hotel colleague, admitted to the crime and led the investigators to where the body was buried.
“Nakakulong na siya (suspect) at tinitiyak ng ating labor attache dun na abogado naman at FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) director naman na sisiguraduhin na justice is done,” said Bello, adding financial assistance has already been given to Daynolo’s family.
DOLE is still running after two more suspects, who served as accomplices in the killing of Daynolo, who moved to UAE in 2018.
“‘Yung isa ay Filipino, isa pa kasalukuyang pinapa-follow up. Tinago si Mary Ann sa loob ng hotel. ‘Yan ang magiging resulta ng autopsy na ginagawa ngayon. Nalaman sa blood test ng cause of death ay may tusok sa lalamunan,” said Bello.
In an interview with Rappler, Daynolo’s family said she never showed signs of being in danger. She even planned to come home to the Philippines this July for a vacation.
“I don’t want my sister to become just a statistic. I want something out of this na ‘yung truth and ‘yung justice para sa kanya,” said Daynolo’s half-brother Cedric Madrigalejo.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Department of Foreign Affairs secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said “we’ll leave no stone unturned for justice” for Daynolo.
