Senior citizen beheaded, dismembered by son in Davao del Norte

(January 20, 2025) – A male senior citizen was beheaded and dismembered by his son over alleged past physical abuse in Tagum, Davao del Norte last Sunday, local authorities said.

The 60-year-old victim was found headless, with his abdomen cut open in their residence at Brgy. Madaum. His internal organs were placed in a cooking pot.

“May possibility na kakainin niya (son) kasi nasa kaldero na ‘yung ibang laman-loob,” said Tagum Police chief Lt. Col. Wildemar Tiu in a radio interview. “Nakita namin ‘yung area, nagsisindi na rin siya ng apoy sa kahoy.”

Tiu furthered that a neighbor noticed a commotion between the victim and his son before the gruesome attack.

The suspect, 41, allegedly struck his father with a piece of wood before beheading him. He then disposed of his father’s head in a fishpond outside their home. It remains missing, as of writing.

The suspect was swiftly caught by his neighbors and brought to Tagum Police. The wood and bolo he used in the crime were recovered.

He admitted the crime and claimed that he killed his father due to memories of the latter’s past domestic abuse, including kicking him in the face and drowning him in the fishpond.

Tagum Police said it will ask the court to subject the suspect to a psychological assessment. His family is determined to press parricide charges against him.
