(May 13, 2025) – Election analyst and experts explained why, in recent senatorial surveys, certain names consistently topped the rankings, while in the current partial and unofficial results of the senatorial race, some unexpected candidates have made it into the “Magic 12.”
Among those who were not in the Magic 12 in the said surveys but are now ranking high in the partial and unofficial results are Bam Aquino, who is currently in 2nd spot, Kiko Pangilinan in 5th spot, and Rodante Marcoleta in 6th place.
“Sila ang mga tinatawag nating nag-over perform,” said TV5 Chief Elections Analyst Edson.
Meanwhile, Erwin Tulfo, who ranked 1st in the last senatorial preference survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS), is now in 4th place in the partial and unofficial results.
Sen. Bong Go, who was ranked 2nd in the said survey, now leads in 1st spot in the partial and unofficial results.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa, who was in 7th-8th rank in the said survey, is now in 3rd place.
Lito Lapid, who ranked 4th-5th spot in the survey, is currently in 11th place in the partial and unofficial results.
“Kung may nag-over perform mayroon din namang nag-underperform,” said Guido.
Those who have failed to make it into the Magic 12 in the partial and unofficial results include Ben Tulfo who is currently in 13th place, Bong Revilla in 14th spot, and Abby Binay in 15th spot.
Meanwhile, he said candidates who have been steady and included in both surveys and the partial and unofficial results include Ping Lacson, Pia Cayetano, Camille Villar, and Imee Marcos.
On the other hand, according to Dr. Froilan Calilung of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Political Science graduate school, there appears to have been a slight shift in trends. He attributes the entry of Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan into the Magic 12 to endorsements and the power of the youth vote.
Meanwhile, Eric Daniel De Torres from the University of the East (UE) Department of Political Science observed that this outcome reflects the impact of effective campaigning, voter education, and increased awareness.
