MAY 12, 2019 — News5 is all set to deliver its comprehensive and data-driven coverage of the midterm elections dubbed “Bilang Pilipino 2019.”
The election coverage starts at 5:00 a.m on May 13 and concludes at 9:00 a.m. on May 14. The same 28-hour uninterrupted programming will be simulcast on Radyo5 92.3 NewsFM and on Cignal TV’s One PH channel 6. Online, it will be livestreamed via News5’s Facebook page and Youtube channel and on its Always On website, News5.com.ph.
First broadcasted in 2016, Bilang Pilipino was commended by various organizations for innovating its election reportage, presenting not just the votes in total, but also specific votes from key locations. This enabled News5 to tell who leads where and interpret the data set in more ways possible.
Bilang Pilipino was conceptualized as an advocacy to remind the public that as Filipinos (“as” or “being” as one translation for “bilang”), it is their right and their duty to make their vote count. Hence, the title also means “The Filipino Count” (“count” as another translation for “bilang”).
Heading into the midterm polls on Monday, Bilang Pilipino returns to give the Filipino voters a balanced, informative and data-driven coverage of the elections across all platforms. And keeping to its commitment, News5 will also present easy-to-understand analyses on voter demographics, top concerns of voters and other topics relevant to the electorate.
To keep pace with social media evolution, News5 teamed up with CrowdTangle to deliver not just the latest election-related posts and tweets, but also the most engaging online content.
News5 also beefed up data gathering operations by partnering with other major media organizations, namely Philippine Star, Business World, The Freeman, Pilipino Star Ngayon and Bloomberg TV Philippines.
Bilang Pilipino will be anchored by News5 Chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes and Chief Correspondent Ed Lingao, together with News5 Production Head Patrick Paez and News5 anchors Raffy Tulfo, Cheryl Cosim, Lourd de Veyra, Atty. Mel Sta. Maria, Marga Vargas, Maricel Halili, Maeanne Los Baños and Roices Naguit.
