(December 8, 2024) – A non-profit organization called on the youth to volunteer for the 2025 midterm elections, citing their “critical role” in preserving the country’s democracy.
The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) made the remark after announcing its plan to enlist 500,000 volunteers for next year’s polls.
“We especially call upon the youth—not just as the future of our democracy but as an essential part of its present. You young people have a critical role to play, not only for tomorrow but today,” said PPCRV in a statement.
Since 2010, the PPCRV has been accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as its citizens’ arm to ensure fraud-free voting. It conducts an unofficial parallel count of returns after the polls.
The volunteers will be deployed to polling precincts and canvassing centers nationwide during next year’s elections, including the inaugural polls for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which are set on May 12, 2025.
The PPCRV furthered that the youth’s active participation and continued vigilance could keep the democratic process “vibrant.”
“Convince them (youth) of the power of their votes. They can write their future with the power of their votes,” added PPCRV.
In January, the Comelec said around 500,000 new voters were aged 15 to 30 years old.
Lawmakers and sectoral groups have urged the Comelec to consider a hybrid system for the upcoming elections to address concerns about transparency and cheating.

The Asian Network for Free Elections, an international watchdog, deemed vote-buying as the “biggest flaw” of the 2022 elections, which were handily won by Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Around 1,000 vote-buying cases are still being investigated by the Comelec.
