FPJ’s BATANG QUIAPO: A EULOGY FOR CAMILLE

As Yukii Takahashi bids farewell to her character Camille in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, we look back at the arduous life of this beautiful girl, who will always be remembered for her grit and strength, and the valuable lessons she left us.

Ipinakilala ang karakter ni Camille bilang isang estudyante sa isang unibersidad kung saan din nag-aaral si David. It was a fine, sunny afternoon pero ang nakasisilaw na kagandahan ni Camille ang nakapukaw sa atensyon ni David. With her charming smile, outstanding face and very radiant aura, si Camille ay ang campus crush, “it girl” ng university, with a very bright future ahead of her.

From then on, masugid na nanligaw si David sa kanya. Bulaklak, tsokolate at kung anu-ano pang mga pampakilig ang binibigay niya para makuha ang matamis na “oo” ni Camille.

Kaso, may ugali si David. What David wants, David gets. At kukunin niya ito sa kahit na anumang paraan. Sapilitan n’yang pinasagot si Camille. Kasama ng mga bulaklak na kanyang ibinigay, ay ang mga mabubulaklak din na salitang kanyang binitawan.

Kaya naman, the pressure is real! At sa kasamaang-palad, napasagot n’ya si Camille.

The relationship went on, at tulad ng normal na galawan ng mga magkasintahan, nag-date, nagpa-sweet at pinakilig nila ang isa’t isa…hanggang sa dumating ang pagkakataong may nangyari sa kanila.

Dito na nagbago ang takbo ng buhay ni Camille.

Nabuntis si Camille. Hindi ito tanggap ng kanyang mga magulang dahil priority nilang makatapos ng pag-aaral si Camille. Pero nabulag siya sa pag-ibig, at pinili niya si David over her parents. Itinakwil tuloy siya ng mga magulang n’ya.

Ang akala niyang pangako ni David na magandang buhay at masayang pamilya, scam lang pala! At katulad ng mga nabubudol, unti-unting nawala ang kumpiyansa ni Camille sa kanyang sarili. Magmula nang itinira siya ni David sa kanilang bahay sa Quiapo, ang dating laging postura na si Camille, napabayaan ang sarili. Ang dating radiant aura, naging mabigat at stressed. Ang dati ring “spark” ng relasyon nila ni David, naging pundido na.

Dumating rin sa puntong sinasaktan na siya ni David. Inaabuso physically, emotionally and mentally. Pero kahit na sinubukan ng kanyang mga magulang na bawiin siya, sa pagkadismaya ng mga manonood, ay mas pinili pa rin n’ya si David!

Hanggang sa nasilaw na ng kanyang pangarap si David. Sa pag-asam na maging ubod ng yaman at makapangyarihan, inilaglag niya ang lahat ng mga taong magiging balakid sa pangarap niyang ito. Nawalan na siya ng pakialam kay Camille, lalo pa’t nakilala niya ang nag-iisang apong babae ng mga Caballero.

At dahil ‘what David wants, David gets’, nakuha niyang makumbinsi si Senyora Bettina na maipakasal sa kanya si Katherine para sa mas matibay na relasyon sa pagitan ng mga Montenegros at Caballeros.

Hindi nagtagal, dumating ang araw ng kasal nila David at Katherine. Araw din sana ng checkup ni Camille, kung saan malalaman na rin sana nila ang gender ng kanilang baby. Pero busy si David. Wala siyang panahon para sa mga bagay na hindi naman makatutulong sa pagpapayaman niya.

Dahil sa ‘woman’s instinct,’ ‘ika nga nila, kinutuban na si Camille na may ibang babaeng kinalolokohan si David, at mas pinagtibay pa ito nang makita n’ya ang wedding invitation nina David at Katherine. Kaya dali-dali siyang pumunta sa venue para tumutol. Ngunit bago pa man niya masabi ang mga katagang, “Itigil ang kasal,” nakita na siya ni David.

Sinaktan, binugbog, at sinuntok ni David ang kanyang tiyan nang ilang beses. Pero malakas na babae si Camille. Bumangon siya, at sinikap na makapunta sa simbahan para ipaglaban ang kanyang sarili, ngunit, hindi na kinaya ng katawan niya ang pang-aabusong natanggap nito.

Camille, you are one of the bravest women we’ve ever known. Para sa pamilya, para sa pagmamahal, pinili mong magkaroon ng pag-asa, at hanapin ang katiting na liwanag sa gitna ng kadiliman na bumabalot sa iyong paligid. You deserved a better ending.

Hindi mo man naipanalo ang buhay na dapat na para sa iyo at sa iyong anak, igaganti ka namin sa pamamagitan ng pagiging mas matapang para sarili naming mga laban, at pagiging mas mapanuri sa pagpili ng makakasama sa buhay.

Magiging aral sa amin ang iyong sakripisyo, para maabot namin ang aming tunay na potensyal bilang tao, bilang babae at bilang ina.
