(May 17, 2024) – Department of National Defense secretary Gibo Teodoro on Friday denied being acquainted with Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, as speculations swirl over her nationality and alleged links to a raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Corporation hub.
Teodoro, who served as a representative of Tarlac from 1998 to 2007, commented on the issue after a group photo showing both Teodoro and Guo circulated on social media.
“Hindi, wala akong kakila-kilalang ganyan,” said Teodoro in an interview with reporters. “Nagulat lang ako na may ganyan. Nakalulungkot, sa lalawigan ko pa nangyari.”
On Thursday, Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. called for an investigation into the identity of Guo, noting that none of the Tarlac-based political figures he has talked to knows about her.
This came after a whistleblower accused Guo of manipulating public funds and using her position to give “unfair advantages” to certain China-based business figures.
Senators also flagged Guo’s lack of school records and her birth certificate, the latter of which was only registered when she was already 17 years old.
Guo explained that she was homeschooled from elementary to high school and did not pursue tertiary education.
Teodoro maintained that a deeper probe into Guo is needed.
“Chinese agent (siya) o hindi, ang usapan, may part siya sa ilegal na gawain sa kaniyang bakuran,” said Teodoro, adding it’s impossible that Guo is acting alone.

Meanwhile, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri urged the Commission on Elections to be “more circumspect” about accepting candidacies.
“Baka ‘di na natin alam, mayors, governors congressmen, baka senador ay—kung napunood niyo ‘yung pelikula, ‘Manchurian Candidate’—kung saan planted assets pala sila. So we have to be very careful.”
