(April 24, 2025) – Tutok to Win Rep. Sam Verzosa, who’s running for mayor in Manila, on Thursday denied allegations of vote-buying and fired back at Mayor Honey Lacuna, warning her to stop making statements against him.
This came after Lacuna, who’s running for re-election, advised Verzosa to “prioritize answering” the show cause order issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) over reports of supposed vote-buying.
Hindi ko pa nilalabas in respect to Mayora Honey.
Verzosa criticized what he described as a dirty political environment, alleging that those engaging in vote-buying are not being reported, while those campaigning lawfully are being targeted.
The Comelec’s show cause order against Verzosa stemmed from the alleged distribution of goods bearing his initials, “SV.” Verzosa said he hasn’t even received the document yet.
He claimed that vote-buying took place at San Andres Complex. He did not name who was involved but said someone was handing out P1,000 to voters.
Lacuna has yet to issue a response, as of writing.
The Comelec also issued a show cause order to Verzosa’s fellow mayoral aspirant Isko Moreno, who was allegedly involved in doling out P3,000 to public school teachers.
Under Comelec Resolution No. 11060, candidates must secure a certificate of exemption to carry out social welfare programs or similar activities amid the election spending ban.
