(January 10, 2025) – Sagip Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta asserted on Friday that the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) “does not take sides” in the political rift between Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio amid their upcoming nationwide rally.
On Monday, the INC will stage a “peace rally” simultaneously in Manila and over 10 locations in the Philippines to back Marcos’ decision to stop the impeachment against Duterte-Carpio.
It raised questions about the INC’s leanings. Marcoleta came to their defense, noting they only want to see the country’s top two executives working together.
“The INC does not take sides. That’s a categorical answer. The INC would like to see people like the Vice President and President work together. That is the essence of good government,” said Marcoleta in an interview with Bilyonaryo News Channel’s At The Forefront.
He also claimed that the rally could remain free from political undertones despite looming criticisms, downplaying its motive alignment with Marcos’ opposition to Duterte-Carpio’s impending impeachment.
“The INC believes peace can only be achieved through unity. Removing the Vice President doesn’t align with that vision,” added Marcoleta, who is vying for a senatorial seat in the 2025 midterm elections. “This is about sending a message to our leaders: set aside differences and work together for the nation’s good.”
Duterte-Carpio is facing three impeachment complaints due to her alleged misuse of confidential funds worth over P610 million, among other grounds.

She and Marcos were previously endorsed by the INC during the 2022 national elections. But in just two years, their once-touted UniTeam got splintered due to “political differences.” Their families have also been feuding since then.
Last November, Marcos confirmed that he asked the House of Representatives to stop efforts to impeach Duterte-Carpio, saying she was not worth their time.
Malacañang, meanwhile, suspended classes and work in government offices in Pasay and Manila on Monday in light of the INC rally through Memorandum Circular No. 76.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority also announced a traffic rerouting plan to ease congestion, with the rally expected to attract at least 1 million attendees from various provinces.
Last Monday, the Philippine National Police coordinated with the INC regarding the rally.
