(February 8, 2021) – Showing a little more bite this time, Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday slammed administration officials for hurling insults at her and for prioritizing their propaganda in dismissing her concerns about the country’s COVID-19 pandemic response.
Robredo said the leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte should recognize and accept the lapses of the government in dealing with the health crisis, saying some people in Malacañang are so defensive that they tend to become rude and arrogant.
“Kaya tayo nagkakaganito kasi walang acceptance ng kakulangan,” said Robredo in her weekly radio show.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque called out Robredo last week for criticizing the administration’s COVID-19 pandemic response, saying it was another form of propaganda. But Robredo said she was not blaming health workers as what Roque thought.
“Iyong health workers po natin ay mahuhusay. Sila iyong grabe na iyong sakripisyo, kaya iyong opisina naming grabe iyong suporta sa kanila. Araw-araw silang sumasabak,” said Robredo.
Roque on Monday yet again responded to Robredo’s latest remarks with disdain.
“Reality bites.
Roque to Robredo: Reality bites

The Philippines’ problematic response to the fatal virus has also led to deeper economic problems with the gross domestic product shrinking to a record-low -9.5% last year.
Prices of basic goods and commodities are also soaring as reflected in the high inflation rate of 4.2% last month.
For Robredo, these are the matters that Duterte’s cohorts should also pay attention to. She said public servants should make use of data and statistics in various studies to improve the country’s situation at present.
Robredo also fired back at critics, some being administration officials, who continue to belittle her capacity to lead.
But amid all the attacks she gets, Robredo said she would continue to remain firm in fulfilling her duty in serving the Filipino people.
