(January 9, 2024) – The Philippine National Police assured on Tuesday it does not need to conduct a loyalty check, confident that all its personnel are loyal to the flag and the constitution led by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Colonel Jean Fajardo, a police spokeswoman, said all 220,000 officers and men in the national police are loyal to the government.
“Ang PNP is 100 percent behind this government,” Fajardo told reporters.
“So hindi natin kailangan ng loyalty check, dahil ang PNP ay isang professional na organization. Alam natin ang aming mandato. Alam natin na we must be accountable sa ating mamamayan na nagpapasuweldo sa atin.”
Earlier, the PNP chief, General Benjamin Acorda Jr., filed a complaint against retired Army general Johnny Lacsamana Macanas Sr., accusing him of violating the anti-cybercrime law by disseminating false information using the police chief’s photo in a vlog or video blog post.
Macanas was accused of spreading false claims on social media that Acorda and the military chief of staff, General Romeo Brawner Jr, have withdrawn their support from Marcos and pressed him to resign from his post.
The military and the police have denied the destabilization rumors in media reports.
During a flag-raising ceremony at Camp Crame, Acorda said the destabilization rumors were “unforgivable” and “wrong.”
Fajardo maintained there was a “clear violation” of laws stemming from the rumors.
“Obviously, ‘yung pagamit ng kanyang pangalan at kanyang mukha there is a clear violation ng existing laws,” she said. “So siguro ang maipapayo na lamang natin doon sa individual na sinampahan ng kaso, there is a proper forum to answer all the complaint filed against him.”
The police Anti-Cybercrime Group, which has been investigating the source of the destabilization rumors, is collecting additional evidence on the case, she said.
For his part, Brawner assured the public that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) maintain their “unwavering loyalty to the constitution” and its members “continue to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism.”
