(February 17, 2021) – Try again.
Despite seeing his electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo get unanimously dismissed by the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), former Sen. Bongbong Marcos still isn’t giving up as his camp claims the decision only dealt with the second cause of action and not the entire petition.
Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ lawyer and spokesperson, told One PH’s Sa Totoo Lang on Tuesday that while they recognize the decision, they are still proceeding with caution and being prudent as they want to completely clarify the PET’s verdict.
“‘Yung term bang ‘election protest’ was used synonymously in reference to the entire election case o ‘yung ‘election protest’ strictly ay patungkol sa manual recount na ginawa ng Korte Suprema?” said Rodriguez.
The Supreme Court, however, sitting as the PET, already clarified and confirmed that the entire petition was junked.
“The 15 members of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal unanimously dismissed the entire electoral protest. Wherefore, the Presidential Electoral Tribunal dismisses the election protest filed by protestant Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. for lack of merit,” said the Supreme Court in a press release.
Robredo edged out Marcos by only 263,473 votes in the tight vice presidential race in 2016. This prompted Marcos to file an election protest, asking for a recount in 27 provinces and cities due to allegations of election fraud.
The first cause of action, which questioned the authenticity of the 2016 elections, was already dismissed in August 2017.
Rodriguez, however, maintained that the PET’s decision was for their second cause of action only as it had yet to rule on the third cause of action, in which Marcos demanded the poll results in Basilan, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur to be nullified.
“We’ve made independent verifications with independent sources and sinasabi sa’min na unanimously dismissed ‘yung election protest. Ang sinasabi lang namin ‘yung election protest ba includes our third cause of action as well? Before we have any statement how we go about the decision,” said Rodriguez.
Plenty of Filipinos have since reacted to the latest defeat of Marcos, with some netizens using it as an opportunity to mock the former senator for now losing thrice to Robredo.

Walang sayo.

Despite the setback, Marcos remains firm, with Rodriguez revealing that the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. will “definitely run” in the 2022 elections, although the position wasn’t specified.
