(January 24, 2022) – The only son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos on Monday night defended his no show at a television interview of presidential aspirants, saying the journalist asking questions is biased.
When asked to define what a biased television host is to him, Bongbong Marcos Jr. said “anti-Marcos.”
“What questions are going to be asked that have not been asked and how many answers do you have to give that I have not been given before? Nothing’s going to change so why are we doing this?” Marcos said on CignalTV’s One PH channel’s program ‘Sa Totoo Lang’.

He said he found it useless to appear at the TV show, knowing he would only be asked questions about controversial issues some 35 years back, with some of the issues he had answered many times before. But Marcos admitted he did not watch the show.
The former senator, who is leading the pack of presidential hopefuls in opinion polls, also hit back at critics and political enemies for calling him a “coward” for snubbing the presidential interviews at the country’s largest broadcast network, saying he was just not keen to look back on the controversies of his father’s regime.
The standard bearer of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Marcos said he would rather discuss matters that are relevant to the public rather than issues about “politics”, which he said will be decided by the elections anyway.
“Siguro naman sa pinagdaanan ko sa buhay ko, maliwanag naman na hindi ako duwag na tao,” Marcos said.
“Lahat naman hinaharap ko eh basta yung mahalaga sa akin ay pag-usapan natin kung ano ang iniisip mo, ano ang inaalala kung ano ang importante sa taongbayan, hindi sa mga pulitiko, hindi sa mga partido, hindi sa mga kalaban, hindi sa kakampi.”
GMA 7 invited five top presidential aspirants based on pre-election surveys, but Marcos declined the invitation.
The hashtag #MarcosDuwag went trending on social media following reports of his no-show.
His spokesman Vic Rodriguez said Marcos snubbed the interviews as he believed that the host, Jessica Soho, has shown to be “biased” against the Marcoses.
The Marcos camp did not specify an example, but Soho had previously interviewed Marcos Jr in 2011 about various allegations against his father, whose administration was marred by records of human rights violations and corruption.
GMA Network defended Soho from the Marcos camp’s allegations of bias, saying that she has proven herself to be a credible and trusted journalist.
“The questions are tough because the job of the presidency is tough,” GMA has said in a statement. “We believe that this (presidential interviews) is an important exercise to inform the public about the candidates seeking their votes in Eleksyon 2022, to help them make the best, most informed choice on their ballots.”
