(May 5, 2025) – The Malacañang on Monday said Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio should “level up” her arguments about public matters after dismissing the criminal complaint filed against her brother, Davao City Rep. Pulong Duterte, as a mere political attack.
Presidential Communications Office undersecretary Claire Castro criticized Duterte-Carpio anew after claiming that the administration of Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. was responsible for the accusations of physical injuries and grave threats hurled against her brother.
“Hindi siya (Duterte-Carpio) nag-level up. Mas parang bumaba pa. Inuulit niya muli ang kanyang excuses na pamumulitika,” said Castro in a media briefing.
The criminal complaint filed by Kristone Patria, a business owner, against Pulong in February surfaced on Friday. It stemmed from an incident in a bar in Davao City, wherein the lawmaker was caught on CCTV footage appearing to threaten Patria with a sharp weapon.
The charges were filed before the Department of Justice.
“Ayon sa kanyang (Duterte) interview, hindi niya tinanggi ang video. Papaano ipapahid ng bise presidente ang ginawang ito ng kanyang kapatid sa pangulo at sa administrasyon?” said Castro.
In a video posted on social media, Duterte did not directly address the allegations nor deny the existence of the video. He is seeking reelection in Davao City, which their family has ruled for decades.
“Nabanggit dito ang pagha-hire, pagkuha ng ibang kababaihan for their own satisfaction. Ang sandaling kaligayahan, bakit ito ibibintang sa pangulo? Hindi ba dapat sagutin na lamang nila kung ano ang complaint?” added Castro.
Last week, Castro refuted Duterte-Carpio’s claim that the directive of Marcos to investigate the water utility firm PrimeWater, owned by the family of former senator Manny Villar, was politically motivated.
Duterte-Carpio recently endorsed the senatorial bid of Villar’s daughter, Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar. She is part of the senatorial slate of Marcos’ Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas.
