(April 3, 2025) – The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) said it is ramping up checkpoints for four-wheel vehicles nationwide following the deadly road rage in Antipolo, Rizal.
According to the PNP-HPG, the move is in line with the order of PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil to enforce equal treatment for all motorists passing through checkpoints.
Nadame Malang.
On Sunday, one rider was fatally shot by a driver of an SUV in a latest road rage incident in Antipolo, Rizal. Three others were injured, including the wife of the suspect.
The 28-year-old suspect tried to flee but was later arrested. He is now facing multiple charges. He maintained that he only opened fire due to self-defense.
Malang stressed the importance of checkpoints in preventing similar incidents. He also urged motorists to cooperate with authorities to avoid unnecessary issues.
As of December, the Land Transportation Office reported issuing 1,126 show-cause orders for various violations, including road rage.
The PNP-HPG reminded motorists to observe patience and avoid conflicts on the road.
Around 1,500 checkpoints have been set up nationwide by the PNP and the Commission on Elections for this year’s elections.
