(December 13, 2023) – A vlogger on Tuesday voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Butuan City and was briefly detained over the charge of psychological violence before posting bail within the same day.
Jam Magno, a known rabid supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, posted her mugshot where she was smiling. She also shared a scanned copy of her certificate of detention signed by Butuan City Police Station 4 officer in charge Cpt. Charles Evan Gatchalian.
“I smiled because I am not guilty,” claimed Magno in her Facebook post. “Have you seen a mugshot that’s much prettier than mine? Funny that people said I was arrested. Correction. I surrendered and posted my P72,000 bail.”
Gatchalian confirmed that Magno voluntarily surrendered after receiving a warrant of arrest.
Based on the photos she posted, Magno was charged with violating Section 5 in relation to Section 3-c of Republic Act No. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
Section 5 defines the acts that constitute violence against women and children while Section 3-c defines psychological violence as “acts or omissions causing or likely to cause mental or emotional suffering of the victim such as but not limited to intimidation, harassment, stalking, damage to property, public ridicule or humiliation, repeated verbal abuse and mental infidelity.”
The nature of the complaint against Magno is not yet clear, as of writing.
“To be fair ha, thank you to the Butuan City Police Station 4 for the wonderful experience today. I actually loved it! And to Barangay Ampayon’s new Barangay Captain Kim Acalayen for the fast process of my bail requirements,” said Magno.
Magno was among the online personalities who gained notoriety during the term of Duterte for always defending the iron-fisted leader and his administration. She was also vocal about her criticisms of the opposition, particularly former Vice President Leni Robredo, even making baseless accusations.
Some of her claims were fact-checked by media organizations. She was “permanently suspended” on Twitter last year and banned from TikTok in May 2021.
She had been out of the limelight since Duterte ended his term.
Incidentally, other staunch supporters of Duterte have also been in the news in recent weeks, including Lorraine Badoy, Jeffrey Celiz, and Jay Sonza.
